PAINDIFF participate in National Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) Festival
Exploring Sex and Gender in Chronic Pain

The PAINDIFF Parteners at the University of Galway, in collaboration with Chronic Pain Ireland, the Centre for Pain Research, and the PPI Ignite Network, hosted a national event- titled "Exploring Sex and Gender in Chronic Pain". The event took place at the Human Biology Building on the University campus as part of the National Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) Festival. This event was also be streamed online, making it accessible to participants worldwide.
This event was a platform for healthcare professionals, academics, researchers, patient advocacy groups, patients and the general public to understand how sex and gender are included in research, pain management and the patient perspective.
This event was hosted by TV presenter and author Andrea Hayes and included talks by academics, clinicians and patient representatives.

Outcomes of the PAINDIFF Survey presented at the Irish Pain Society & Northern Ireland Pain Society Annual Scientific Meeting
October 19, 2024
This joint Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM) of the Irish and Northern Irish Pain Societies took place at the University College Dublin. President of the Irish Pain Society, Dr Michelle Roche, co-hosted and co-organised this meeting with Dr John O’Hanlon, Convenor of the Northern Irish Pain Society. The gathering was a momentous occasion showcasing the high-quality multidisciplinary pain research being conducted across the Island of Ireland, and a unique opportunity for, discussion, education and networking.
In line with the IASP Global Year, the theme of this year ASM is “Sex and Gender Disparities in Pain”. Invited international and national speakers highlighted the complexity of pain and pain management, why sex and gender should be considered, and the need to take an interdisciplinary approach to how pain variation is understood and managed. Abstracts were submitted for short oral and poster presentations from across all pain disciplines. The presenters showcased outstanding research, which demonstrated the high level and quality of pain research being conducted in our universities, hospitals and community settings across the Island of Ireland.
The outcomes of the PAINDIFF survey were presented in to posters at the meeting by Eleonora Fetter, researcher Assistant on the PAINDFF project.
